There are times in life when what you believe to be true is validated and your beliefs are vindicated. However, there can be no joy in this when there has been no contrition or deviation from the wrong course by the forces opposing you. I will let you be the judge. This is what happened last week: Michael Morell, the former Acting Director of the Central Intelligence Agency under President Obama told the House Judiciary Committee that he coordinated a letter, later signed onto by fifty-one (51) intelligence officers [including himself and four other former CIA directors including John Brennan and Leon Panetta], that stated that the information from Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation. He claims that he orchestrated this at Antony Blinken’s request because he wanted to help Joe Biden's presidential campaign. At the time, Blinken made the request, He was a senior member of the Biden campaign. This letter signed by 51 intelligence officers, was published by Politico five days after The New York Post first reported on the contents of the laptop. The headline for the Politico story, on October 19, 2020, was: “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former officials say.” The letter further alleged that The New York Post story “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” It had the effect of killing the story, as the media treated the story not only as a lie, but as some sort of psy-op by a hostile country. But this was not a back-channel effort by a presidential campaign staffer to quash a false campaign rumor. The Hunter Biden laptop story was factually true. At this point, even The New York Times has even admitted that the story was legitimate and true, but buried, of course, within an Opinion piece on March 16, 2022. And yet, where is the news media coverage? This story should be bigger than Watergate! Five former heads or acting heads of the Central Intelligence Agency drafted or signed on to a letter that they knew to be false, at the bidding of a presidential campaign, to directly influence and interfere in a presidential election. Add to it the fact that the CIA is legally barred from involvement in domestic politics and law enforcement and there should be . . . . [crickets]. Nothing has happened. CNN ran one story. The Washington Post ran one article by Aaron Blake that read more like damage control than this is a major news story. Democracy is not dying in darkness. It’s out there, in the open, and no one seems to care. And yet, it does matter because the world is watching. Australian journalist Caitlin Johnstone commenting on the testimony: “Obama's CIA director just cooly admitting that he used his intelligence connections to orchestrate a psy-op to ‘help Vice President Biden . . . because I wanted him to win the election’ invalidates anything the US government does under the banner of fighting ‘election interference.’” In other words, no one outside of the United States believes anything the United States says about promoting freedom and democracy anymore. The value of our money is based upon the “full faith and credit” of the United States, and that has been lost. Without a foundation, how long before the entire house of cards collapses?
